A Boot Collector Feature
A piece of the Lone Star State transplanted to Chicago's West Town — the largest Western wear retailer in the Midwest, built one family generation at a time since 1972.
Luis Alcala founded the shop in 1972, and it's grown into a Chicago institution occupying nearly half a city block — a staggering footprint for a Western wear retailer this far from Texas. The family-run business became known as a cultural hub for the city's Western wear community, stocking thousands of pairs of boots and hats at any given time and building a reputation for deep product knowledge passed down across generations of the Alcala family. Luis Alcala passed away in 2014, and the business has continued under the family's ownership since.
Sheer scale and selection — a working inventory in the thousands of pairs, spanning everyday leathers through alligator, ostrich, lizard, snake, and eel exotics — alongside a level of product knowledge and personal service that's earned the shop a loyal, multi-generational customer base. It's described as a go-to for everyone from local ranch hands to international tourists passing through the city, a reputation built on consistency rather than any single signature product.
Not a bootmaker itself, but one of the deepest selections of other makers' work anywhere outside Texas.
