A note on this entryThe Oklahoma Historical Society's encyclopedia entry on the state's boot and saddle makers names Andy Card among its well-known craftsmen and reproduces a saddle bearing his work, but gives no founding date, shop name, or further biography. We've written up what's confirmed and left the rest open.

The Story

Andy Card worked as a boot and saddle maker in Oklahoma City, and is named directly in the Oklahoma Historical Society's Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History & Culture entry on the state's boot and saddle makers — the same reference that documents Don Atkinson's early career in Pawhuska. The encyclopedia's surviving illustration of his work is a saddle, suggesting his trade may have leaned toward saddlery as much as bootmaking, which was common among Oklahoma's leather craftsmen of the era. Beyond that entry, detailed biographical records haven't surfaced.

What They're Known For

Being named, alongside a small handful of others, as one of Oklahoma's well-known boot and saddle makers in the state's own historical record — a mark of real standing in the trade even without a fuller company history attached to it.

An Oklahoma City maker preserved in the state's own historical record.
