The Story

Miles Lamonie Burns — described by his own family as "a cowboy, fine leather craftsman, blacksmith, musician, husband, father, and visionary" — opened the original shop near Capitol Reef in Loa, Utah, in the spring of 1876. The business relocated to Salina, Utah, in 1898, where it still operates today, now run by the sixth generation of the Burns family.

What They're Known For

Handcrafted saddles, boots, hats, belts, and buckles built to heirloom standards rather than seasonal trends — goods meant to be worn for decades and handed down, not replaced. That combination of longevity in both the business itself and the products it makes is Burns' whole identity: a shop that's outlasted nearly every other Western retailer in the country by building things meant to do the same.

Same family, same small Utah town, since 1876 — about as deep a well of Western retail history as exists anywhere.

Pairs from smaller, custom, or long-closed makers rarely come up for sale, so this search may not find anything. It’s worth checking back now and then.
