A Boot Collector Feature
A father-and-sons shop started in 1978 in Mexico's leather capital that's grown into a five-facility operation turning out roughly 8,000 pairs a week.
Caborca was founded in April 1978 by Luis Torres Muñoz together with his two sons, Luis and José Manuel, in León, Guanajuato — one of the world's premier shoemaking regions. The company exported its first pairs to the United States in 1986 and has since grown into an international operation shipping to Canada, Japan, and Italy as well.
What started as a family workshop is now the Caborca Group, running multiple brands across five production facilities. Each pair still goes through more than 200 individual production steps, a deliberate choice to keep traditional artisanal bootmaking intact even as the company scaled into real industrial volume.
Combining hands-on, step-intensive construction with genuine manufacturing scale — a different model than either a boutique custom shop or a fully mechanized factory. It's a useful name to know for buyers who want authentic León, Mexico craftsmanship without the wait or price of a one-maker custom order.
From one family's 1978 workshop to roughly 8,000 pairs a week — still built on the same 200-plus-step process.
