A Boot Collector Feature
Henry Camargo treats a boot top like a canvas — '55 Chevys, Harleys, and Dallas Cowboys helmets have all turned up on his work.
Henry Camargo considers himself an artist first, and it shows: working out of Mercedes, Texas — the same Rio Grande Valley bootmaking town as Rios of Mercedes — he builds unconventional designs on exotic skins using free-form stitching, letting his imagination run well past traditional Western motifs. A Texas Monthly feature on the state's top custom bootmakers listed tops featuring '55 Chevy convertibles, '66 Corvettes, Harley-Davidsons, Ford pickups, speedboats, Dallas Cowboys helmets, and Lone Star beer logos. Pairs at the time started around $225 with a three-to-five week turnaround.
Free-form, pop-culture top art on exotic leathers unlike almost anything else in traditional Western bootmaking, with clients that have included country singer Willie Nelson and actor Patrick Duffy.
