A Boot Collector Feature
A Montana ranch-based brand that turned a trademarked twist on the Western short boot — riveted tops, shafts worn upside down — into a woman-owned small-business success story.
Nikki Edmundson founded Canty Boots in 2010 at the base of Montana's Tobacco Root Mountains in the small town of Harrison, building a brand around a distinctive design twist: riveted boot tops and shafts worn upside-down, a look distinctive enough that the company holds USPTO design protection on it. The brand has grown to operate a flagship store on its home ranch, opened in June 2019, selling curated clothing, accessories, and gifts alongside its boots. Canty has drawn attention well beyond Montana, including international press coverage and recognition as a Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year.
A genuinely original take on the Western short boot, blending ranch-rooted tradition with a modern design sensibility — proof that a small, rural, woman-owned operation can build a recognizable national name around one distinctive idea.
A Montana original, built around one patented idea.
Pairs from smaller, custom, or long-closed makers rarely come up for sale, so this search may not find anything. It’s worth checking back now and then.
