A Boot Collector Feature
Handmade boots from Walnut Springs, a small Bosque County town in Central Texas, by a bootmaker collectors still call legendary.
Jackson’s Custom Made Boots was the shop of Larry Jackson in Walnut Springs, Texas, a town of only a few hundred people in Bosque County, southwest of Fort Worth. Its woven label reads simply “Jackson’s Custom Made Boots, Walnut Springs, Texas.” We haven’t found a published history of the shop or its years in business.
True custom work. One surviving women’s pair, sold as the work of “legendary bootmaker” Larry Jackson of Walnut Springs, was built of soft calf with inlaid flowers and butterflies, pegged soles, and stacked leather heels. Small-town shops like this one built boots to order for local ranch families, which is why their pairs turn up rarely and are worth knowing on sight.

Pairs from smaller, custom, or long-closed makers rarely come up for sale, so this search may not find anything. It’s worth checking back now and then.
