A Boot Collector Feature

Santana Custom

Custom boots from Santana’s Boots in El Paso, Texas — a label that turns up on the resale market as just “Santana” and gets lost among two much better-known footwear brands with the same name.

A note on this entryA collector has traced the Santana Custom label to Santana’s Boots, a custom shop in El Paso that has its own Instagram and Facebook pages. We haven’t yet found a written history, a founding date, or the name of the bootmaker behind it. Searching the name is hard because two unrelated brands share it: the Carlos Santana line of fashion footwear sold under the guitarist’s name, and Santana Canada, a Canadian maker of women’s winter and fashion boots. Neither one is connected to the custom boots described here.

The Story

Santana Custom boots show up regularly in online listings, usually labeled just “Santana.” Sellers and buyers often lump them in with Carlos Santana footwear, a licensed fashion line that included Western-styled boots and booties. But the Santana Custom pairs are a different thing altogether: individually made custom boots rather than mass-produced styles from a branded fashion collection. They come from Santana’s Boots in El Paso, the city that calls itself the boot capital of the world and is home to many of the makers in this series, from Tony Lama to small custom shops like Rocketbuster.

What They're Known For

Custom construction under a name that’s easy to misread. When you’re looking at a “Santana” listing, the label wording, signs of handwork, and the absence of the Carlos branding are the quickest way to tell a Santana Custom pair from the production line. If you know who founded the shop or when it opened, we’d love to fill in the rest of the story.

Pairs from smaller, custom, or long-closed makers rarely come up for sale, so this search may not find anything. It’s worth checking back now and then.
