The Story

Paul Hedrick founded Tecovas in 2015 after a stint at Warby Parker convinced him there was room to apply the same direct-to-consumer playbook to Western boots — manufacturing in León, Mexico and selling straight to customers online and later through its own retail stores, skipping the traditional wholesale markup that had long defined boot pricing. The approach earned Tecovas the nickname "the Warby Parker of cowboy boots" in press coverage, and the comparison has stuck as the company has grown into a nationally recognized Western brand with a wide retail footprint, expanding well beyond its original boot line into apparel and accessories.

What They're Known For

Making handmade-style Western boots accessible at a lower price point by controlling the supply chain directly — a business-model story as much as a bootmaking one, and one of the clearest examples in this series of a startup successfully breaking into a tradition-bound industry.

The direct-to-consumer disruption of an old-school Western category.
