A Boot Collector Feature
A Bangkok exotic-leather shop that outfitted decades of visiting collectors in cobra, python, and full-quill boots before quietly closing its doors.
Tony Leather operated out of Bangkok, Thailand, as a registered exotic-leather manufacturer, Tony Leather Industry Co., Ltd., for more than three decades, by its own account — and at least one longtime customer's recollection pushes that timeline back even further, recalling purchases from the shop's owner, known to customers simply as "Tony," before 1990. The shop built a loyal following among visitors passing through Bangkok, the kind of word-of-mouth business that depends on return customers rather than foot traffic: reviewers describe buying boots on one trip and coming back years later for resoling, still fitting and still holding up after two decades of wear. The shop has since closed permanently, with no indication in available records of why or when, or whether the business or its name continued elsewhere.
Handmade exotic-skin boots — cobra, python, and other skins among them — made to custom measurements, plus bags, jackets, belts, and wallets in the same materials. Customers consistently singled out the fit, the leather quality, and the owner's own hands-on, unhurried approach to a trade that's largely disappeared from most tourist shopping districts.
A small Bangkok shop that built a global following one pair of custom boots at a time.
Pairs from smaller, custom, or long-closed makers rarely come up for sale, so this search may not find anything. It’s worth checking back now and then.
