A Boot Collector Feature
A boot-industry veteran who'd already spent decades building other companies' boots decided, instead of retiring, to finally put his own name on the box.
Randy Watson spent decades working inside the boot industry before starting his own brand, with stints connected to some of the biggest names in the business — Justin, Lucchese, Tony Lama, and Nocona all turn up in his background. Rather than retire on that experience, Watson decided to build boots he'd be proud to put his own name on, launching R. Watson Boots as his own venture.
The company is based in Crowley, Texas, and has stayed a genuine family operation: Randy's sons, Ryan and Reed, joined the business and are carrying the brand into its next stretch. R. Watson sells strictly wholesale, through retail partners rather than directly to consumers — a business model the company frames explicitly around valuing retailer relationships over direct sales volume.
Premium construction details drawn straight from decades inside the trade: cowhide lining for comfort and support, hand-corded decorative patterns for a custom look without a custom price tag, genuine leather outsoles, and a line of colorful rough-out designs that blend traditional technique with a more contemporary look.
One veteran's answer to "what boot would I build if it had my own name on it" — now a two-generation family brand.
